Truth

Life tells you one thing with sweet, seductive lies, and tries to impress with empty promises, but only God gives me unadulterated truth. God is always truth!

The first mission of every Christian

My devotion today said:
The last command Jesus gave His followers before He ascended to heaven was to go and make disciples, to baptize these disciples, and to teach them how to obey God’s Word. Therefore, we should first be disciples or followers of Jesus, then we should teach others to follow Him. (Matthew 28:19–20; 2 Timothy 2:2)

I cannot agree more! Our assignment is to be the light and salt and spread the word, and not only that but make followers!

Glow Mission- Day 12

This morning we went to visit the children of the Bajao area. The sun hadn't come out fully but we managed to squeeze over 80 children under one roof. The children enjoyed the action songs and little games and were caught up with the story of Moses that our team acted out as the story was being told and translated.

Afterward we dressed wounds while some of us did face painting. The kids were excited and seeing the smiles on their faces was very strengthening.

On a side note, almost every little boy wanted a dragon painted on their face/arm. I couldn't understand the obsessions with dragons and didn't even know how to paint a dragon. I kept trying to persuade them to other things to get painted :)

One thing I noticed was that these were kids who lived by the ocean. Turtles, dolphins, sharks, and other sea creatures kept featuring in the face painting requests. The houses of the Bajao people are built on stilts over the water. Each one joined by narrow planks. Most of these planks/bamboo were not even fastened to the supports. It was tricky to walk on them with the water just below. A really different lifestyle but with content people. God sustains His people wherever they are.

After lunch we went to the other side of the island to minister in a place called Looc. Just when we arrived they had an electricity black out. So we led worship with just acoustic guitars and a cajon. Praise and worship was powerful as the people sought after God in worship. Some of the Melbourne youth stood up to testify then Pastor Gregory shared the word as the children went out to have their classes and activities with some of the Melbourne youth. Afterward we came back in together for prayer. It was good to see the saints reach out and seek God in prayer. As the Melbourne youth went around praying God began pouring out his anointing upon the whole church.

We were blessed to have sister Fe (pastor David's wife) translate for us to the Visayan dialect. The church building was in a picturesque lot. It was truly a painter's dream. Church by the woods and kids learning outside amongst the bamboo the trees. We finished day at Looc with fresh buko (young coconut). So simple, but fresh and refreshing.

We got back to our accommodation to rest and cleanup. Went for dinner at the missionaries residence. Pastor Don and wife Marie are American.Home cooked meals. Epic. After dinner we sat around the table and drew wisdom from the veteran missionary couple. It was uncomfortable at times when they would ask us strong personal questions but at the end of the night we were all agreed that that was a precious moment for us to learn about the real side of missions and the importance of discipline in a Christian's walk with God.

We got back home to reflect together as a team. The God moments throughout the day became clearer as each one testified and shared. Praise God for another day -written by Apo Leo

Glow Mission - Day 11

Greetings to you all in the name of Jesus! In the past few days the experiences that we had with God is just amazing and one of them was today.

Today we went into a village with Pastor Don Hewitt, an americian missionary living in Philippines. This land was given to him for his mission and he can do anything with it so he decided to build houses for people who lives in the dump site. Today we are helping them to clear the land for the new houses that are going to built. We didn't have the equipment that we use at Australia for cutting grass and trees, we had machetes and axes which we are not used to using. We had to sit down on our haunches and slash at the grass. Or use a small axe to chop down some trees. It was a very hot day, everyone were sweating and exhausted, I had never sweat like that for years. Everyone was doing fine, it was a really good and unique experience for us.

There was this one tree that we are all trying to cut down, we had a turn each but we are just not used to using axes. And our local friend named Alger, a bible college student came and helped us, after a few hits the tree just fell down we were just amazed how quick he did it. Alger is the bible school our church sponsors, it was nice to meet him. Each one of us were using machetes to cut down the grass not just any grass alone but bushes as well.

After all the cutting was done we burned the grasses which some of us haven't done for a long time. The smell of the smoke is just wonderful, it's like we have the freedom to burn anything. I thought that I wouldnt be able to keep up with the work but the people that we are helping inspired me to keep going. The people around us are all talking in visayan which none of us understand. It's really hard to communicate with them and thank God for the local people that helped us throughout the day.

We learned a lot today and one of the these are that not all missionaries are just talking about the bible or standing there preaching the gospel, but also doing hard works like we did today.

It was a tiring day but it was fun. We thank God for the strength that we have, without Him we can't do anything, because through Him all things are possible.

Glow Mission - Day 10

It was really hard to leave a place where the word and spirit took a refuge. The conference was amazing, although hot most of time.

And yesterday, we worked and helped with Pastor Dons outreach at Cavite and we worked with the kids at the poor side of the city called Pasay. It was really amazing to see that most of the people (children) were really really cooperative and the participation that they put in the activities was really a blessing and an honour.

I believe that God planned and had it all in His mind that through that, we will have more knowledge on how to handle kids properly and teach them in the future.

This morning, we went to his church called Reign Of Christ's Kingdom. It was on the 3rd floor of a building and the view from the top was very amazing. We saw some of the houses around the church filled with rusty roofs. Service started and the spirit of God was moving. The songs were really energetic and also the people were really into it. Kids were running around as they worship and people were getting off their seat to shake people's hands. In other words , people were really enthusiastic.

After all the praise and worship, Pastor Gregory was called up to preach. It was really moving and encouraging message. After the preaching, people were called up for altar call. All the youth prayed for all the people that stepped up. In my experience, it was really amazing to see how people were so eager and excited about it. They were kneeling down, they were speaking in tongues, and people were talking to God.

After the service, it was time to go. Some of the people came up to me and asked me how did I know what they were going through. It was easy to say that it wasn't me who knew , God showed me. Time to leave.

We took taxis to the airport and Pastor Don and Kuya Jay dropped our luggages off. I'm really thankful for them because from day one, they were always there. They were really helpful. We then got on board the plane and flew up to Bohol. It is a really beautiful place. As soon as we got off the plane, we were picked up by pastor Don (from bohol) and pastor David and his wife at the airport. The team was in pastor Dons truck and talking to him and getting to know him. We all got dropped off at a church in Bohol.

It was again an amazing service. Their praise and worship team was blessed with amazing talents. Pastor Greg was again called up to preach. It was different because someone was translating. Havent seen that before. But it was an amazing service. The message was very encouraging. After the service we went to have dinner then went to our hotel. We had a very tiring full and exciting day but it was all worth it.

Glow Mission - Day 9

In the morning we were heading off to Pasay City, before we left we had our final farewells to friends and family that we met up with. After a two hour ride in a squashed van we arrived in a very hot day in a crowded Manila city.

As soon as we checked into the place that we were staying at for the night Pastor Don was there to pick us up. There was no rest for us Pastor Don and Jay picked us up in a van to go to Cavite where we were going to minister to the kids.

The route that we took to get there was very narrow and dangerous even for experienced drivers. The street the van went through was so narrow that the sides of the van were almost touching the wall on both sides. With good nagaviting from our driver we got through. When we arrived at Cavite we were greeted with friendly smiles and singing from the kids. The youth also sung a few praise and worship songs with the children. They were full of energy and are always smiling.

After the songs were finished, we had an Easter egg hunt which we organized for the children, they really enjoyed it. After that Apo did some face painting for the kids, we taught them how to play ninja and they played a game, their sores or injuries were given medical attention and they were given glow sticks. We stayed there until evening when the sun set over the horizon.

I think the children of Cavite and the members of our youth were very blessed today. Some of us got to treat the sores for the kids, some got to play with them and one of the youth members even got to share to someone. Over all it was a great day.

Glow Mission - Day 8

Today was our last day staying at the LAMI NatCon conference. For me, today was probably one of the longest tiring days we've ever had.   To start off, today was the day of the conference where one of the 'Youth Network sessions' was given to us, Glow Youth, to lead. We were to take the Praise and Worship  as well as share the message.  So it was Friday, and by this time everyone was used to waking up at anytime; sleep at anytime, getting ready at anytime and to head off at anytime; praise God for the strength He always gives us to stand up and go even when we've had only 4-5 hours sleep. We woke up early to get ready for the service we were taking.  Our session was right before lunch and  we took the service; praise and worship and the Word. I guess it was the first time for most of the band to play in front of a larger crowd; but all went well and praise God nothing went wrong. The heat on that stage was amazing. It was a huge hall, no air conditioning and we wore our new Glow Youth shirts: this meant, a really sweaty, fibre covered band. Apart from that, all was well. Kuya (Pastor) Roger introduced all of us before Apo got started on sharing the Word: He read our testimonies we wrote a while ago before going to the mission trip. Apo shared the Word and blessed the Youth there and the service all together went well.  After taking the service, I forgot everything leading up to the very long picture taking session. Basically everyone was assigned a color for their shirts to make up the LAMI picture where the letters were made up of 4 different colors. We took group pictures with the same colored shirts, and group pictures of the Youth, and I finally they took  the picture for the huge LAMI word with the whole National Conference (NatCon) attendees. That was the longest possible photoshoot! To add to it, the sun was out and no breeze was present; we still had fun hanging with the people there.  By the end of the day, everyone was tired and worn out from the picture taking and then we had another activity; for us (the youth), it was our last activity for NatCon because wea were leaving in the morning the next day. We had to trek at least a kilometer and a half bringing chairs to another gym; the one we were using for the conference was going to be used by another group. While bringing chairs I talked to some new friends I met at NatCon, Kuya Toptop and I talked about the university. I was still amazed at how huge the University of the Philippines was;  I am really considering attending if my parents allowed. Well anyways, after the parade heading to the other gym, we basically closed off our stay with goodbyes to the new friends we met.  After all that, it was the most relaxing sleep we've had in a long time. We had no activities in front of us and we were just headed to our next destination the next day. I KNOW that we couldn't get through that day without strength from God, and He did bring us through the whole conference all in one piece learning so much from all of the teachings and experiences. Praise God for all His done. God bless. - written by Yung Garol

Glow Mission - Day 7

Today was evangelism day where we went out to share the gospel of God to people. For me this was out of my comfort zone so I was a little nervous at first. I was very very nervous because I wasn't used to talking about the gospel of God in public. The morning conference we talked about how we should approach the people and what we should talk about the gospel of God and what good things He has done in our lives and how He saved us.The morning session  also talked about this pamphlet about how sin has separated us from God and how we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.   So after that we were all sorted in our groups and which places we should go to spread the gospel to unsaved people. We arrived to our destination by Jeep it was a good trip and was exciting. When I stepped off the Jeep it was already scorching hot and I was sweating like crazy but I still was determined to go through with it. My partner and I chose a street where we should start first and started to walk down to the houses. My partner spoke Tagalog to the people because I couldn't speak so I let him do the talking whilst he was talking I was praying and giving the tracts to the people to read.Even though we got rejected and ignored sometimes, my partner and i prayed that God will change their ways and prayed that He would touch their hearts and to go into their lives. So we just kept going and continued walking to other streets. To tell you the truth for me it was the best experience ever sharing and reaching out to those who needed God the most. Overall I really enjoyed it and it was the the best day of my life seeing people focusing on us when we are talking to them about the gospel. Also God gave me the confidence and the strength to go out in the hot weather and gave me confidence to talk to people which was really out of my comfort zone. I had a blessed day and I just thank God for this awesome and life changing day that he has given me. - written by Abraham Peque

Glow Mission - Day 6

Greetings in Jesus' name from the beautiful Philippine Islands. We are currently in Los Banos, Laguna, home to countless hot springs and the famous Buko (young coconut)Pie. We will be here for the next three days attending a conference hosted by Lakas Angkan Ministries. We look forward to this Friday when we will be leading the service. We are believing God for a Mighty move of His Spirit. Late nights and early mornings are fast become the norm. Our evening sessions finish around 10pm and our mornings start at 5am. We are thankful for the strength God gives. We would not have got this far without God.   The saints here are very passionate about soul winning and discipling the nations. This coming Thursday we will be going out to the community to witness and go door knocking as we proclaim Jesus. I am looking forward to see what God is going to do through this team. In our sessions today I met and made friends with many saints from around the Philippines. I am persuaded that I must visit Mindanao. Maybe next time. Right now the Laguna sun is very hot, we have to keep drinking water to keep our fluids up. The air here is so much cleaner then our last city. This sore throat should be gone by the end of the week. On a side note, tricycles are the bomb. Tiny but still epic. Picture a motorcycle with a side carriage. I dunno how I fit into it. Apart from the getting on and off part, the ride was smooth. Blessings from Laguna. - written by Apo Leo

Glow Mission - Day 5

What an amazing God we serve. It's been almost a week now since we arrived here in the Philippines. This week, we have been Learning so much from the Lakas Angkan Ministries National Conference here in Los Banos, Laguna. We've had a very busy week so far, yes it's very tiring, we get up so early in the morning and finish really late. We haven't had as much sleep like we used to have while we were in Melbourne. Everyday we need to be up at 5AM for our quiet time as a group and spend at least an hour with the Word before we go out and get on with all that's involved in our day.  Our quiet times are organized through the conference where the participants are grouped together according to age and gender. Our quiet time topics have been provided through our conference manuals and together we share it. But this particular morning, we spent our quiet time as our groups. This morning Tania and I spent our quiet time together. It was absolutely refreshing and we were just focusing on the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we get caught up with all the fun events and the programs, and there's a manual so we can just follow that but, it is very very important to just quieten ourselves and focus on what the Holy Spirit says. This morning that's what Tania and I did and the Holy Spirit revealed to us some marvelous things. We also met a new friend and a sister from the conference during our quiet time, her name is Ate (older sister) Meryl, a mother of two and part of the couples network together with her husband. She was just praying in the corner when she saw us and then she joined us in prayer and discussions. She and her husband are both passionate about discipleship. It is amazing to hear their views and passion about discipleship. One thing that I really love about their idea of discipleship is that they always emphasize that DISCIPLESHIP IS RELATIONSHIP.  Building connection and friendship to lead our disciples in Christ. I am amazed how they win souls and eventually the people they bring to Christ become leaders in bringing people to Christ as well. What a blessing!!! I am really really looking forward to tomorrow's event which is the highlight of this conference... Which is the Mass Evangelism. We will all be going out and handing out tracts, talking to strangers and telling them about the Gospel and praying for them and their salvation. I am so excited!!!  Today the conference also held a fun sportfest for all the participants. We were all involved in a few activities. It was fun to watch everyone so involved and the amazing teamwork. The boys here are not shy at all. Everyone is dancing and just having fun, all of us just love cheering for each other and encouraging one another. Not all of us in the Glow Youth are in the same teams but, may the best team win. To God be all the glory! That's Christ's love in their hearts just shining on their smiles and love for everyone. The presence of the Lord is truly in the hearts of these people. This conference truly motivates me to reach out and spread the Gospel just has Jesus did, just as Jesus loved and Just as Jesus gave His own life.  This mission trip is truly life changing and heart warming. I thank God for every day that we are able to serve Him and learn more about Him.  - written by Anna Baccay

Glow Mission - Day 4

We woke up around 5am to get ready for our next destination which is Laguna. The van arrived at exactly 7am which was one hour late. We thought that we couldn't be able to fit everyone because of our bags. We had 11 people in the van with 19 bags. We all had to fit into the small van. Some of us had to hold luggage on our laps  the van was hot and stuffy. When we stopped for a rest, I had to climb out of the van through the windows as  there was luggage in the way,  so did Thom and Abraham. It was a 3 hours drive to Laguna, we arrived at University of the Philippines, Los Banios around 11:30. We checked in at Searca Hotel. The environment here is way different from Payatas. This place is like a province there are trees everywhere and its clean. But we also missed all the people at Payatas. It came to our mind of how fortunate we are  to be in this kind of environment. The hotel where we are staying at is 5 minutes walk to the conference hall. We had problems with the room arrangements but in the end it was sorted out. We had different people who came  up and organized the place where we are staying at. And we thank God for using these  people to bless us and giving us a warm welcome. The whole youth went straight to the conference and met a lot of people. The only thing we did not expect was the heat. It was so hot that even a five minute walk made us all sweat so bad that our tshirts were so drenched.  Here at the university it is not safe to drink water from the tap because it is kinda dirty. So they provide some drinkable water which is only available between 5am - 8pm. We had to be at the main auditorioum by 1pm for orientation  The Hall was full of people (more than 1500+) from different parts of the Philippines that had gathered together for a conference call Lakas Angkan Ministries National Conference  This conference is about making disciples which helped us a lot for our mission trip, because the mission trip is about this. Most of the message is in Filipino language which is really hard for Pastor Greg, Apo, Tania,  and little Abe so we have to explain what is going on. It was really crowded and hot but we really enjoyed the night, God is in the midst of the conference, the first night was beautifully done we can't wait for the coming days. God is gonna do mighty things amongst us and through us. God can do anything and nothing is impossible for Him. Even though we had tough times God gave us strength and wisdom to go through the obstacles because in the end it's the harvest that really matters in this mission. We also wanna thank the church for praying for us and God trully is a prayer answering God. He never leaves us or forsakes us. - written by Aaron Baccay

Glow Mission - Day 3

We got up at 7:30 and started to get ready. After an exhausting Saturday ,we stiill had to get up early and we headed back to church. I was excited to go back to church quickly because on the previous day, I had an encounter with a little boy named Andrei. Andrei lives in a place near a garbage dump. Later that day, we went on a tour to the dump side. It was a really horrible place. The smell was very attrocious and there was garbage everywhere, water was leaking from the garbage bags and running down the streets. There were kids playing on this dirty disgusting street and dogs were lying in their own poo. There were piles of garbage everywhere. There were even paths made between the piles of garbage to peoples houses. Most of the houses were just sheets of metals with dirty floor.  Even  though this was where he came from, Andrei always had a smile on his face. It was that smile that caught my heart. When we arrived at church, the first thing I looked for was Andrei. The amazing thing about Andrei was that he had only one hand and his other hand his fingers had limited use. I found out that day that he was born that way BUT even though he was born and looked this way, it didn't stop him from having that huge and beautiful smile of his. I walked in church, and there as kids sitting all over the floor. And the adults were lined up against the wall on wooden benches. I saw andrei sitting at the front and his fce lit up when he saw me and he rushed over and gave me big hug. - - Praise and worship began and led by our youth team and it was a great time and the people were really blessed. People hearts were touched and the presence of th lord was there in a powerful way. - - After the service we left the church around 2pm and  went back to our uninviting hotel for a quick rest. We got an hours rest and at 4pm, we got back to the church and started the youth service. We played charades and our team won as usual. ;) it was good because their youth and our youth were really bonding and having fun. After the youth service, we went to the dump-side and had a tour and our tour guides were the people from church's who lives works there collecting garbage or scraps of metal for their lively hood. - - As we walked along, what I really noticed was people were very very happy, and one of the tour guides showed us his house.  He said that his house were not that much and small. It was a small one room hut, he his family and his brothers family all lived in a space that is smaller than my room. But from his heart it was the best house anyone could ever have. And while we were walking, God showed me something, he said that even though they were very poor and they don't have that much, they were happy. Us, in Australia, we got everything and still we take depression pills. I'm not trying to be all rude or anything but I just  want you all to see that those things we have there we take for granted are a basic need they don't have here, For example,  just a simple clean  drink  of water is hard for them to get All they want is clean and drinkable water! - Written by Thom Baccay

Glow Mission - Day 2

We arrived  in Manila early on Saturday morning by the time we left the airport it was around 1:30am. We were all very tired and exhausted but we still had a two hour bus ride to our motel. We arrived there at around 3:30am (7:30 am Melbourne time and we had been up 24 hrs)  We were visited by the Baccay's mother who gave us some food as we were all starving!  Everyone was tired and as soon as we finished eating(it was around 4:30) we went to sleep because we had to wake up early and everyone was jet lagged (such a blessing; we arrived un-harmed, got to eat and had a place to rest). The motel that we stayed at for the night wasn't supposed to be the one in which we were supposed to stay in because the other motel was fully booked. There was no elevator so we had to lift our suitcases up three flights of broken stairs.  It was a run down place where there were holes in the walls, broken windows and a bath room door that had no handle so we couldn't open and close it properly. At least we were safe. Praise God!  We woke up at around seven in the morning and moved our luggage to the motel next door, the one that we were supposed to stay at. Our first destination that we went to was to a Baptist church where  we met up with Pastor Jack. Pastor Jack looks after a group of children who go door-knocking which involves giving pamphlets which tell people about Jesus.  The sisters of the youth helped out with teaching the children to sing as a choir, and the brothers helped out with teaching other little, kids to sing a few songs. Throughout the day we became buddies with the children, supervised them and taught them a thing or two.  After the children went home we went to a mall to get some dinner around 4pm. Soon after we arrived back in the motel because  we needed to pack some stationary packs  for all the little kids from Payatas  and a few toys we had brought. We stayed up to 12 am even though we were really exhausted from having only about three hours sleep the previous night. We just did not want to disappoint those kids. Some of them have nothing not even slippers on their feet but they want to go to school and we just wanted to help them and put a smile on their faces.  Overall I think that today went superbly it was great to see how happy the children were despite the surrounding environment. Throughout the entire day God was at work. When we were waiting for taxis to pick us up from the mall we were expecting two in for all of us to return to the motel, but the Lord had something better in mind. He provided us with a large taxi with more seats than an average five seater so we could return to the motel. During the day I was tempted to just loose it and stampede about in anger, but yesterday I had prayed for some encouraging Word so that the feeling of any anger could be suppressed.  This very morning Hebrews 12:1-3 was put into my mind and the verse was a great one to refer to whenever I was about to stress out. One final thing which really hit me was how Pastor Jack and his wife give so much and are so faithful, it was very inspiring. This reminds me of Matthew 6:33 which says "but seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you".  Written by Kenny Huynh

Mission Update - Day 1

The first step of our Glow Youth Mission Trip: Leaving Melbourne! Meeting up at church at nine in the morning, the youth gather and finally finish packing bags and get ready to set out on our mission. Everyone arrives at church and we we have a final Word from Pastor Paul reminding us to remember Who we represent and that this mission is solely for the Mission of God and with all focus on Jesus Christ. The real encouraging thing I find about our youth group is that we do know that what we do is for God and that we wouldn't even be able to go in this trip, or do anything for that matter, if it wasn't for Him. So after the final words from Pastor Paul, we all pray and get ready to set out. We all began packing the bags in the bus and my mum began to cry (haha); it started the night before so it wasn't all that intense. Saying goodbye everyone, we headed off in the bus to go to the airport.  Arriving at Melbourne Airport, Pastor Greg outlines rules so that we all don't get separated. It was the 'buddy system'. Basically you we were given a partner and we had to make sure we saw them and they were close to the group at all times. At the airport we ate before we went off and had no major trouble with anything in the process of boarding; praise God.  The long trip from Melbourne to Brunei was the transition flight before actually going to Manila. The trip was fun. To burn some time in the plane, everyone just did their own thing : watch movies, play games and Kenny, Apo and I drew pictures. It was a long ride and once we got to Brunei, there was another long 3hour wait till the next flight. But after all that, it was quick 2hour trip straight to Manila. Everyone was extremely tired from the extremely long day because we arrived at Manila at 12am (Manila time) ;this meant that it was already 3 am in the morning for us Melbourne kids. In the end, we we all incredibly knocked out of the long trip tiredness.  We met Paster Don at the airport whom took care of all our luggage and guided us all the way to our hotels. By the time we got to the hotel, I was knocked out and could barely stand and open my eyes, but at the hotel was Anna B's mum. She made us food and brought soft drinks, which kept us all awake for a good 'nother hour until everyone just slept. The First day was incredibly long and tiring, but we made it! We've arrived at Manila, safely and all in one piece. Thank you God. Written by Yung Garol

the fruit of the spirit

What kind of fruit are you?

Matthew 7:16
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

John 15:2
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

John 15:4
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Romans 6:22
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Hebrews 13:15
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
